Job Description

The job holder is responsible for the preparation of accounts from incomplete records. He/She should be capable of preparing accounts of a variety of businesses from sole traders, partnerships, limited companies etc., without assistance, up to the stage when they can be handed to his/her principal (the principal is the partner or manager responsible for that client) for discussion with clients. He/She will undertake the adjustments thereafter. This work also includes the calculation of tax liability whether it be personal or corporation tax.

The job holder will be required to finalise accounts for certain clients which are delegated to him/her, always keeping the principal advised in this connection.

The job holder must be fully conversant with and have a thorough working knowledge of VAT work, to apply this to the clients in the office.

All work must be completed to the deadlines set, and where the job holder finds anomalies or queries, it is his/her responsibility to pursue these with the clients.

He/She may be required to undertake book-keeping at work, as appropriate, either in our own office or at client's premises. In this connection, he/she must be neat and tidy in the work as well as accurate and project an efficient image of the company to clients.

The job holder is required to keep abreast of legislation in order to handle the work he/she undertakes but, whilst training, will be assisted.

The procedure within the office is that accounts are prepared to draft stage and these are normally reviewed with the principal who sees the client, and hands back the work for final adjustment.

The job holder will deal with telephone queries, as appropriate, and will be called upon, to devise his/her own letters to clients. He/She will be required to contact clients to resolve queries.

The job holder needs a working knowledge of income tax and is required to complete tax returns, and may in time be required to work on more complicated tax work.

The job holder keeps the work in progress list up to date, so far as his/her own area of responsibility is concerned.

The job holder will organise his/her work load and priorities, and must ensure that the place of work and work itself, is kept neat and tidy.

The job holder must complete his/her timesheet on a weekly basis and ensure all time is recorded throughout the week.

With computerisation, the job holder must be familiar with computerised systems including Cloud Accounting, Sage and Excel, as well as manual accounts systems, in order to be able to use all the programs available and make full use of the software.
