We now have a vacancy within our Leicester team for an R&D Tax Consultant.

Role Purpose:

You will be required to work closely with our clients across different sectors to identify, analyse and facilitate the submission of R&D claims and tax credits.

Key duties:

  • Demonstrate an ability to analyse and interpret data, identifying scope for R&D claims and applying technical knowledge appropriately.
  • Preparation of R&D claims for submission to HMRC
  • Preparing advice to clients on tax credits and RDEC
  • Preparing responses to or liaising with HMRC with regard to queries they may have on R&D claims on behalf of our clients.
  • Managing a portfolio of clients and project delivery across these
  • Managing client engagements and developing strong relationships
  • Preparing advice to clients on tax credits and RDEC
  • Building a network from which referrals are received and representing Haines Watts as a wider business.
  • Willingness to gain awareness of other service lines and their value to the business.
  • Helping to identify and develop new opportunities, including involvement in pitching for work and working with our sales and marketing team.

Key skills:

  • Strong knowledge and experience of the UK R&D tax incentive regimes including involvement in SME and RDEC claims.
  • Awareness of different claim methodologies and experience of industry specific issues.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent R&D technical tax abilities combined with business and sales experience.
  • Writing and reviewing compelling technical project reports to bring out the key technical factors of client projects to support R&D claims in all sectors.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to produce technical and costing documentation to ensure the submission of robust and eligible claims to HMRC
  • Knowledge of accounting treatment and wider tax issues surrounding tax credits.
  • Experience of responding to HMRC queries on R&D claims would be preferable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to develop internal networks and client relationships
  • Able to operate autonomously and manage own workload
  • Taking advantage of new opportunities for learning, sharing new knowledge, being intellectually agile and thinking creatively.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team, including supporting the development of less experienced team members.
  • Experience with working at higher management levels, with CEO's, MD's and company founders.

About You:

  • Solid UK corporation tax experience, ideally gained within practice and R&D
  • Strong report writing skills are essential for this role.
  • Strong communication and organisation skills.
  • Experience of managing and controlling workflows in a practice environment
  • Ability to work confidently alone, but also be a team player
  • Excellent time management
  • The ability to work under pressure, to deadlines and respond promptly to requests.
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft packages - advanced working knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Experience liaising with HMRC on a tax or R&D basis
  • Knowledge of Patent Box relief would be beneficial
  • Technical knowledge or background from an R&D related background would be an advantage
