Trainee Solicitor

The Firm
HW Business Law LLP is an alternative business structure licensed to provide legal services. It is the fastest growing alternative business structure in the country and is part of a large progressive group of accountants. It provides legal business advice to owner managed businesses including corporate, commercial, commercial property, employment and finance advice. HWBL currently has five lawyers all of which are based in London.

Key objective
To provide a high quality legal service to our clients whilst gaining competency to practice as a solicitor in a supportive environment.

Key duties:
Responsible to a partner and other fee earners within the team to assist and become competent in all aspects of legal compliance and management for the level of a solicitor and to undertake technical legal work in relation to corporate, commercial, property and employment law matters.

Specific Job Responsibilities


  • Case and transaction management
  • Attend meetings with client
  • Gain an understanding of client expectations and requirements
  • Assess legal problems
  • Advise clients on costs
  • Conduct legal research
  • Devise case strategies
  • Draft documents
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Comply with office procedure requirements

  • Administration
  • Maintain the training record
  • Conduct self-appraisal and development planning
  • Participate actively in supervision and appraisals
  • Complete time recording
  • Maintain files
  • Billing, paying costs and closing files
  • Follow administrative systems and procedures

  • Development
  • Gain competency in the skill standards
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Attend internal courses and pass the Professional Skills Course
  • Keep up to date with law and practice
  • Assist business development
  • Achieve admission to the toll


  • Personal Skills
    You will be expected to provide professional, efficient and friendly services to clients.

    Interpersonal Skills
    You will be expected to communicate clearly and appropriately, both orally and in writing with other parties whilst maintaining excellent working relationships. Other duties include being able to negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure objectives.

    Academic Skills
    You will have a good academic record having obtained a degree and passed all the necessary law exams.

    Organisational Skills
    You will be expected to assist in the lifecycle of a transaction, usually under pressure and to tight deadlines. You must, therefore, be able to prioritise workloads at any given time.

    Management Skills
    You will have the ability to view situations from a commercial or business perspective. This requires you to look at a situation from different angles. You must, therefore, be capable of delegating tasks, supervising where appropriate and working on your own initiative.
