We are recruiting for a diverse Accounts Senior Manager / Partner Designate to work within our growing Hereford office. You will be supporting, managing and overseeing the delivery of accounts preparation services, and managing multiple client engagements. This is an advisory client facing position for a client portfolio within the owner managed business sector.

For someone coming into this role we would be looking to invest in the right candidate to go on their Leadership Development Program which is a successful program that assists Senior Managers and Partner Designates to progress to Leadership positions.

The Senior Accounts Manager will lead in the effective and efficient operations of the accounts department. This practice areas should reflect the values of Haines Watts Hereford Limited (the Firm): a quality process and outcome, show technical knowledge and compliance, excellent client communication that results in our firm's reputation as a preferred partner in this area of service. Leadership is expected to identify best practices and, after obtaining agreement from the Firm's Director(s), consistently implement process improvements. Leadership for this practice area includes leading a team of individual(s), where appropriate and employed by the Firm, that will support this service and be competent in its delivery. This position reports to the Director(s) of Haines Watts Hereford Limited.

In addition a Senior Accounts Manager is a person in charge of managing the Firm's relationships with its clients. They are in charge of building long-term relationships with a group of clients and generally stay with clients for the length of their relationship with the Firm. The goal is to keep clients or accounts as long as possible and to extend the service offering to those clients. Account managers may be in charge of finding new business, be assigned prospects, given accounts, or a combination thereof. Tasks will involve project management, strategic planning, sales support, product design, service application, logistics, and marketing.

The Accounts Senior Manager / Partner Designate duties will include:

  • Trains and supervises staff, reviews and evaluates their work as required by the Firm's Director(s)
  • Undertakes technical accounts, and some tax, work as required.
  • Manages the workflow of the accounts department
  • Operates as the point of contact for assigned clients and provides them with technical information and advice as required
  • Develops and maintains long-term relationships with clients
  • Makes sure clients receive requested products and services in a timely fashion
  • Communicates client needs and demands to the Firm
  • Forecasts and tracks client account metrics
  • Manages projects within client relationships, working to carry out client goals while meeting the Firm's goals
  • Identifies opportunities to grow business with existing clients
  • Coordinate with staff members working on the same client to ensure consistent service
  • Collaborates with sales team to reach prospective clients
  • Service multiple clients concurrently, meeting all applicable deadlines
  • Billing responsibility including discussing fees with clients
  • Contributes to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive service
  • Establishes good working relationships with all Directors and staff members
  • Writes articles and makes presentations to internal staff and external customers and prospects, when required
  • Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and imagination in approaching work
  • Responsible for establishing engagement letters and all related compliance framework for accounts clients
  • Reporting compliance progress to Director(s) and liaising with accounts managers about any potential problems likely to arise
  • Responsible for peer review documents and on-site visits, including preparation as it relates to the accounts practice area, as required
  • Assist the Firm's Director(s) with accounts software and technology process development and enhancements
  • Establishes workflow and timelines as it relates to projects
  • Liaises with the Firm's Director(s) regarding the variety of training related to accounts areas
  • Facilitates in-house accounts training
  • Develops policies and procedures to effectively carry out his or her area of responsibility for the Firm, including the effective administration of the department
  • Develops and maintains an expertise in the accounts area
  • Keeps all staff in the Firm informed of changes and developments in the accounts area
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts, with Director(s), the training necessary to develop and maintain the competence of all personnel, on a need-to-know basis, in the accounts area, where required
  • Develops and identifies the capability of the firm to provide additional needed services for clients
  • With Director approval, establishes and maintains sources of expertise outside the firm as needed to make a full range of services available to our clients
  • Reviews productivity and periodically evaluates including projecting future workload needs to the Firm's Director(s)
  • Undertakes marketing activity on behalf of the Firm to raise the Firm's profile and to generate new fees


  • ACA, ACCA qualification/overseas equivalent with at least 6 years post qualified experience
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of OMB/SME clients
  • Proven experience in new business development and client relationship management
  • Experience of dealing with complex client issues
  • Leadership experience at a management grade
  • Experience of preparing budgets and monitoring actual time against budget


  • ACA/ACCA qualified
