We are recruiting for a bookkeeping and accounts trainee to work in the Small Business Team in our Farringdon office. You will work with small business clients across a wide variety of sectors and provide support with bookkeeping, management accounts and year-end accounting.

We are a top 15 accountancy firm specialising within the owner managed business area across the UK. A well-established firm since the 1930's with an entrepreneurial and dynamic feel who are continuing to grow nationally as well as regionally.

The Small Business Team trainee role offers a competitive salary, on the job training and college based tuition as part of the AAT Professional Accounting Technician apprenticeship. After successful and satisfactory completion of the 24 month apprentice programme you would be offered the chance to apply for a chartered accountant training contract in the Small Business Team or another team within the office.

The bookkeeping and accounts trainee duties will be to:

Bookkeeping:

  • Prepare income and expense analysis using the firm's cloud bookkeeping software;
  • Use this data to prepare quarterly VAT returns;
  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts;
  • Liaise with clients to complete filings and to answer any queries

Accound Preparations:

  • Reconcile purchase, sales and general ledger entries;
  • Prepare accounting schedules such as fixed asset registers;
  • Make postings using the firm's accounting and working papers software;

Other:

  • Prepare returns and other documents for filing with Companies House or HM Revenue and Customs as instructed;

Experience:

  • Some work experience in an accounting or financial role is desirable

Qualifications:

  • GSCE Maths and English Language both at grade B or above
  • 260 UCAS points
